Leaf-cutter ants bring cut leaves to cultivate a fungus garden in their nest. The fungi serve as their main food source. The ants are covered with Streptomyces bacteria which produce an antibiotics that suppress growth of parasitic molds in the garden. Reproductive females carry the bacteria to new nests when they start a colony.
