Parent-offsprirg conflict over sex ratio.
If a queen bee mates only once, she has a r of 0.5 with either sons or daughters, so kin selection predicts a 1:1 sex ratio of female to male offspring. In these hives, worker policing of eggs results in a 3:1 sex ratio of female to male offspring, since workers share an r of 0.75 with their sisters, but only 0.25 with their haploid brothers.
